Loss-tolerant operations in parity-code linear optics quantum computing
A heavy focus for optical quantum computing is the introduction of
error-correction, and the minimisation of resource requirements. We detail a
complete encoding and manipulation scheme designed for linear optics quantum
computing, incorporating scalable operations and loss-tolerant architecture.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figure
Efficient Parity Encoded Optical Quantum Computing
We present a linear optics quantum computation scheme with a greatly reduced
cost in resources compared to KLM. The scheme makes use of elements from
cluster state computation and achieves comparable resource usage to those
schemes while retaining the circuit based approach of KLM
Loss Tolerant Optical Qubits
We present a linear optics quantum computation scheme that employs a new
encoding approach that incrementally adds qubits and is tolerant to photon loss
errors. The scheme employs a circuit model but uses techniques from cluster
state computation and achieves comparable resource usage. To illustrate our
techniques we describe a quantum memory which is fault tolerant to photon loss
Programmed schedule holds for improving launch vehicle holds
Baseline definition and system optimization are used for the analysis of programmed holds developed through prelaunch system analysis. Identification of design specifications for ground support equipment and maintenance concepts, and design specifications are used to describe the functional utilization of the overall flow process
Consumer responses to corporate social irresponsibility: The role of moral emotions, evaluations, and social cognitions
We investigate the mediating roles of moral emotions and attitudes between perceptions of corporate irresponsible actions, on the one hand, and consumer responses, on the other hand, and further examine their contingencies based on consumer social cognitions. Our findings show that, for corporate transgressions, multiple social cognitions (moral identity, relational and collective self‐concepts, and affective empathy) moderate the elicitation of negative moral emotions (contempt and anger) and overall evaluations (attitudes), which, in turn, lead to negative responses toward the company (negative word of mouth, complaint behaviors, and boycotting). Our study adds to extant research on corporate social irresponsibility by examining three generic reactions people have toward corporate social irresponsibility and demonstrating important boundary conditions. In addition, hypotheses are tested on a sample of adult consumers. Implications for communication by firms are considered.Peer Reviewedhttps://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/149212/1/mar21197.pdfhttps://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/149212/2/mar21197_am.pd
EXPERIMENTAL METHODS IN CONSUMER PREFERENCE STUDIES
Controlled experimental auctions can be used to elicit preferences for food products. We describe results from two series of experiments in which subjects revealed their willingness-to-pay for safer food. In one series, the risk reduction technology was not specified; in the other, it was identified as food irradiation. The results provide some evidence on the acceptability of food irradiation as a risk reduction technology.Consumer/Household Economics,
The phase transition in the localized ferromagnet EuO probed by muSR
We report results of muon spin rotation measurements performed on the
ferromagnetic semiconductor EuO, which is one of the best approximations to a
localized ferromagnet. We argue that implanted muons are sensitive to the
internal field primarily through a combination of hyperfine and Lorentz fields.
The temperature dependences of the internal field and the relaxation rate have
been measured and are compared with previous theoretical predictions.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Entangling photons via the double quantum Zeno effect
We propose a scheme for entangling two photons via the quantum Zeno effect,
which describes the inhibition of quantum evolution by frequent measurements
and is based on the difference between summing amplitudes and probabilities.
For a given error probability , our scheme requires that the
one-photon loss rate and the two-photon absorption rate
in some medium satisfy , which is significantly improved in comparison to previous
approaches. Again based on the quantum Zeno effect, as well as coherent
excitations, we present a possibility to fulfill this requirement in an
otherwise linear optics set-up.Comment: 4 pages RevTeX, 2 figure
El rol del control personal en la función paliativa de la justificación del sistema entre la población indígena y no indígena de estudiantes peruanos
Indexación: Scopus. In this article we propose a mediation model for the association between system justification and psychological well-being (i.e., the palliative function of ideology), based on system justification theory and compensatory control theory. Specifically, we argue that endorsing system-justifying beliefs leads to increased perceived personal control, which in turn predicts higher well-being. We used a convenience sample of students from two Peruvian universities. The results showed that system justification was related to general psychological well-being and personal control. In addition, indigenous students rated lower on system justification, general psychological well-being, self-esteem and personal control. Next, we found that the association between system justification and general psychological well-being was stronger among indigenous students, and this relationship was partially mediated by personal control. In addition, we showed that the mediation model is moderated by ethnicity, so that personal control is a mediator only among non-indigenous participants. We conclude that personal control is a mechanism involved in the palliative function of ideology among this group. Finally, we discuss possible explanations for the mechanisms involved in the palliative function of ideology among low-status individuals. © 2018, © 2018 Fundacion Infancia y Aprendizaje.
Parents' involvement in child care: do parental and work identities matter?
The current study draws on identity theory to explore mothers' and fathers' involvement in childcare. It examined the relationships between the salience and centrality of individuals’ parental and work-related identities and the extent to which they are involved in various forms of childcare. A sample of 148 couples with at least one child aged 6 years or younger completed extensive questionnaires. As hypothesized, the salience and centrality of parental identities were positively related to mothers' and fathers' involvement in childcare. Moreover, maternal identity salience was negatively related to fathers' hours of childcare and share of childcare tasks. Finally, work hours mediated the negative relationships between the centrality of work identities and time invested in childcare, and gender moderated this mediation effect. That is, the more central a mother's work identity, the more hours she worked for pay and the fewer hours she invested in childcare. These findings shed light on the role of parental identities in guiding behavioral choices, and attest to the importance of distinguishing between identity salience and centrality as two components of self-structure
